Strategic Natural Resource Group is an official partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2026, an International Day proclaimed by UNESCO

For Immediate Release

Campbell River, British Columbia — MARCH 5, 2026 — Strategic Natural Resource Group (Strategic) is proud to officially partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2026, an International Day proclaimed by UNESCO to highlight the critical role engineering plays in professional resource management, emergency and risk management, and wildfire resilience and suppression.

World Engineering Day, celebrated globally on March 4th, recognizes engineers and engineering organizations for their contributions to sustainable development, climate adaptation, and community resilience. For Strategic, the day underscores the importance of engineering-led, proactive solutions to escalating natural hazards—particularly wildfire risk driven by climate change.

“Wildfire and emergency risk are no longer future concerns—they are immediate challenges facing communities, ecosystems, and critical infrastructure,” said Domenico Iannidinardo, Strategic CEO. “At Strategic, engineering is central to how we reduce risk, strengthen preparedness, and design long-term resilience. World Engineering Day is an opportunity to recognize the professionals who are applying engineering and planning expertise to protect what matters most.”

Strategic’s work integrates engineering, natural resource management, and risk-based planning to help communities and organizations move from reactive emergency response toward proactive resilience. This includes wildfire risk assessments, community wildfire resilience and suppression, emergency management frameworks, and landscape-scale resource management strategies designed to reduce hazard exposure and improve recovery outcomes.

“By combining Indigenous knowledge, operational experience, and advanced engineering, we are reshaping how the world responds to wildfire. There is nothing more efficient at directly reducing negative climate impacts than putting out unwanted wildfires as quickly as possible.” – Domenico Iannidinardo, Strategic CEO

As part of World Engineering Day (WED 2026), Strategic is sharing insights, case studies, and expert perspectives on how engineering supports:

  • Wildfire resilience and suppression
  • Emergency preparedness and response readiness
  • Sustainable professional resource management
  • Climate adaptation and community safety

World Engineering Day was established to raise awareness of the vital role engineering plays in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including climate action, sustainable communities, and ecosystem protection.

About World Engineering Day

In November 2019, UNESCO proclaimed the World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) at its 40th General Conference. It has been celebrated worldwide on March 4th each year since 2020. Since then, WFEO has co-led with UNESCO the annual World Engineer’s Day celebrations on March 4, federating the initiatives and events organized by its hundred or so member institutions, and organizing a major event each post-Covid year (in 2022 in Costa Rica, in 2023 in Spain, in 2024 in Portugal and in 2025 in Paris, at the UNESCO Headquarters). This year, the theme is “Smart engineering for sustainable future through innovation and digitalization” and the main event will be held from March 3rd to 5th at Balai Kartini Ball Room in Jakarta, hosted by our National Member for Indonesia, the Institution Engineers Indonesia (PII). The website is WED2026.id. The event will give the floor to leading governmental, scientific and entrepreneurial figures, to illustrate the diversity of issues and contributions linking the engineering profession to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
