Strategic Natural Resource Group Supports Senate Wildfire Report

The release of Canada on Fire: The catastrophic and escalating effects of wildfires on lives and communities on June 10, 2026, marks a significant moment in shaping Canada’s response to an intensifying national crisis. The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry has underscored that wildfires are no longer isolated seasonal events—they are a growing economic, social, and public health emergency requiring urgent, coordinated action.

The report highlights how recent wildfire seasons have exceeded the capacity of existing systems, with millions of hectares burned, widespread evacuations, and mounting economic losses across forestry, agriculture, and rural communities.  In response, the Committee has put forward 15 recommendations, including recognizing forests as strategic national assets, establishing a federal wildfire coordination office, expanding firefighting capacity, and investing in Indigenous-led fire management and resilience strategies.

Wildfire is a matter of national security

Strategic Natural Resource Group welcomes these recommendations and strongly supports their implementation. The report aligns with Strategic’s long-standing position that Canada must adopt a proactive and collaborative approach—one that integrates industry expertise, Indigenous knowledge, and modern technologies to mitigate wildfire risks and strengthen resilience across landscapes and communities.  We need to prevent wildfires wherever possible, detect them quickly and ensure they are actioned as fast as possible.

In particular, the emphasis on treating forests as critical infrastructure and investing in mitigation and prevention, rather than solely response, reflects a necessary shift in national policy. Strengthened coordination across jurisdictions and long-term funding commitments will be key to ensuring these recommendations translate into meaningful and sustainable action.

In October 2025, Domenico Iannidinardo, CEO, Strategic Natural Resource Group, and Alex Deslauriers, Co-Founder/CEO, FireSwarm Solutions, presented to the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry.  They emphasized the urgent need for wildfire resilience and suppression planning, highlighting integrated technical expertise, endtoend project management, and innovative technologies from FireSwarm Solutions and ACC Innovation. Supporting these objectives, Strategic advocates for improved interprovincial crew mobility and a national framework for standby and training cost reimbursement.

As noted in the report’s conclusion, Domenico Iannidinardo, CEO of Strategic Natural Resource Group, emphasized that wildfire is a matter of national security.

Strategic Natural Resource Group looks forward to working alongside federal partners, rural communities, First Nations and other stakeholders to help advance these recommendations and ensure Canada is better prepared to meet the growing challenges of wildfire management.
